Personal Growth African Style

COVER This book has received outstanding reviews from top educators and business leaders.
It has already been set by UCT graduate school of business as the core text for the advanced course in leadership for MBA's.

"This book speaks to a style of leadership that could be Africa's gift to the world". Dr Mamphela Ramphele

"....an intellectually solid piece of work on African leadership that was also attractive to teaching a new generation of students of ways of thinking and doing leadership that keeps our common humanity at the centre of this difficult task of leading in a divided and unequal country and continent. I for one will be recommending this book to my students."

Professor Jonathan Jansen, Vice-Chancellor, University of the Free State, South Africa, author of Knowledge in the Blood: Confronting Race and the Apartheid Past

"Through dedicated, diligent in-depth research, observation and serious reflection, the authors have commendably captured the philosophy of uBuntu (African Humanism), both theory and application, as a compelling compass for personal growth and probable emergence as a leader. They provide a sorely needed African perspective for Africa and the world on cooperative and communal life for sustainable growth and development today."

Reuel J Khoza, Chairman of Nedbank, South Africa, author of Let Africa Lead

Sawubona Africa

Sawubona Africa by Barbara Nussbaum and Ronnie Lessem Barbara co-authored "Sawubona Africa, Embracing Four Worlds in South African Management" with Dr Ronnie Lessem (Zebra Press, Struik Publishers, South Africa, 1996), and wrote "Making a Difference: Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Development in Stutterheim" (Vivlia Press, Johannesburg, South Africa, 1997). She has also published articles on ubuntu, a concept drawn from South Africa (Ubuntu roughly translates as "the capacity to express compassion, justice, reciprocity, dignity, harmony and humanity in the interests of building, maintaining and strengthening community") .

"Sawubona Africa" was a pioneering book in post-apartheid South Africa, and is about how and why African culture is a positive source of transformation. It contains wonderful case studies of innovative transformation in corporate culture among some of South Africa's most progressive companies. Many of these examples are inspiring today (The book is out of print, but chapters from the book are available upon request.)

Making a Difference

Making a Difference by Barbara Nussbaum The book "Making a Difference" is an inspiring story of co-creative leadership in one of South Africa's most violent towns.

Three longer articles she has written link ubuntu to business; they appeared in www.worldbusiness.org (see the links on the ubuntu page on my site). For those interested in reading more about the cutting edge of new paradigm thinking, Barbara highly recommends becoming a subscriber of the World Business Academy.

Barbara enjoys writing poetry and psalms. The psalms arise out of her own impulse to find strength and inspiration for herself and others during challenging moments. Samples of her work are available on this website.
